Hello! Name’s Sofia, with a gazillion nicknames my friends come up with. I’m an asian-br third-culture kid who grew up between languages and countries and never really stopped moving.

The short version of the language situation: my mom spoke Mandarin to me, my dad Portuguese, and English to one another. I taught myself English mostly to figure out what my parents were saying when they didn’t want me to understand. It didn’t always work, but here we are.

Excuse me as I pack my bags and move to another country every time I have a Major Life Issue to deal with, hehe. So far this has led me to the US, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Belgium, the UK, a slightly cursed stint in Düsseldorf, and four months in China in 2023 that I have not shut up about since.

Because I grew up moving around my whole life, writing and journaling online have always been my comfort zone, a way to keep my friends updated in a time before social media (and when the content I created actually belonged to me). For years, my besties were my doggo, a digital Sony Cyber-Shot camera, and the extremely slow computer in my parents’ library, which let me post on a blog I kept under a pseudonym (I was a kid) since 2007. Somewhere in there I also streamed video games to strangers, ran a Discord community of 1,500+ people, and was in a band. It went nowhere.

Then life slowly started to happen, and, with work, studies, me turning off everything that made me ME so I could just survive to the next day, and the ever-increasing screen time in my routine, I’ve drifted away from my creative and online hobbies and now pop back for very random posts. Pre-pandemic I was honestly trying to settle in São Paulo. The pandemic cured me of that. The part of me that hates settling gets to stay.
